Aloha, My name is Julia Fincher. I was born and raised in Long Beach, California, and have been living on Oahu since 2014. My true yoga journey began in 2011, shortly after having my first child. I was a young mama, who’s world shifted very suddenly. I was sad, I felt alone, I had body dysmorhpia, and I didn’t know who I was any longer. I then realized I was suffering from postpartum depression. I knew I had to make changes to my life, not only for myself, but for my daughter. I started rock climbing and “doing” yoga. Originally it was for physical changes, balance and flexibility, to be a better climber. Very quickly it became a lifestyle change and dedication. I fell in love with the practice, like I had finally come home, back to myself, but a transformed version.
In 2014 we moved our little family to Oahu. I found a donation based, Sunset Candlelight Yoga class at Ala Moana Beach Park, and began to attend classes regularly. I became very close friends with the teacher, Liel Cheri, and felt so inspired by her and the location.
One night my intention was to become a yoga teacher and teach in the same spot I was practicing in. Two weeks later, Liel told me she was leaving the island and she wanted me to take over the classes! Very shortly after that I found my dear teacher, Lisa Asha Rapp with My Yoga Spirit and completed my 200hr YTT in 2015. And that’s when I took over the Sunset Candlelight Yoga classes.
In 2016 I fell in love with stand-up paddle yoga and received my 25-hour SUP YTT from Leah Vernon with Yoga Kai Hawai’i. In 2019, I became the owner of Yoga Kai!
Fast forward to today, I have three beautiful children, which motivates me to continue to grow in my spiritual practices of yoga, meditation, reading, surfing, hiking, self-care and playing!
In my classes I encourage students to be present and deeply tap into consciousness with body, mind and spirit. I love offering a lighthearted flow, allowing students to feel confident in their bodies and greet themselves with kindness, exactly where they are in that moment. My goal is to share my deep-rooted love, passion, and lifestyle of Yoga with my community.
