Kara grew up traveling and living around the tropical Pacific, learning to understand, respect, and love the ocean and the life it supports. She holds a BA in marine biology and a MS in marine resource and environmental management and has over 15 years of experience working on international tuna fisheries management and policy, community level marine education and training, and capacity building on over a dozen Pacific Islands.
An integral part of her life growing up, Yoga evolved into a parallel career of sorts. Kara is a 500-hour certified Yoga Instructor and Yoga teacher trainer who has taught in Hawaii for almost 15 years as well as internationally, including Indonesia, Micronesia and the Marshall Islands. Kara also started a Yoga in the workplace program at NOAA that is still running today. Extremely passionate about the islands she works on, she has also led multiple Yoga empowerment retreats in Kosrae, Micronesia, which include cultural immersion and a marine conservation service opportunity. These days, when her job with Conservation International doesn’t take her off island too much, you’ll find her leading her signature Mandala flow style Vinyasa classes on Thursday evenings at 5:15pm and Saturday mornings at 9:30am at the North Shore Yoga CoOp!
